Portrait and landscape painter Sylvester Hodgdon spent his brief artistic career, from the mid-1850’s through the 1860’s, in Boston. Waterfall in the Mountain depicts Glen Ellis Falls in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, where Hodgdon painted several of his recorded landscapes during the mid-1860’s.
